Got water?

What is the deal with the older generation and their wanting to feed newborns water?

Even to my inexperienced mommy mind, it's not a good idea unless the newborn's on formula.

Gah.

    I think its because they used formula rather than breastfed? My mum keeps asking me to give X water too...

    I've been breastfeeding my baby all the way till now. No water initially. Am regretting a bit now. Very hard to wean. He doesn't want any water. For my next baby, I'll try to give water, but maybe not immediately.

    I think giving water is to let them get used to the taste of tasteless water rather than anything.
