Flattery gets you everywhere.

I have this book at home.

One day, I saw Evan flipping through it. I asked him who this person was.

He said Mommy. I was most flattered.

Sometimes when we are in the car, he would suddenly quip "That's Mommy!" And I would have no idea what he was talking about.

Then one Sunday, on the way to church, a bus whizzes past us.

Evan yells: "That's Mommy!"
Mommy: " Mommy's here!"
Evan repeats: "That's Mommy! On the bus!"

I look at the bus. It has this ad on it.

I am confused. "Where's Mommy?" I ask.

Evan (irritated that he has to explain something that is obviously clear to him) : There! On the bus! Mommy wear red!

Ah, he thinks the Special K girl is me. How nice that my son thinks me so slim!

A few minutes later, Jordan chimes in.

Jordan: "There's Mommy on the bus!"

Once again, I crane and crane. I wonder if there really are that many Special K buses around.

In the distance, I see this bus.

I ask which one I am. She says ALL.

Once again, I am flattered but I cannot help but worry about what strange body image ideas they have about me and how that is going to affect them when they grow older. Will Evan demand his girlfriend to look like Cindy Crawford? Will Jordan want a Special K body?

I'm a bit neurotic when it comes to weight and how I look but I make it a conscious point never to say anything about it in front of them lest they develop strange body image ideas. And yet, they seemed to have me pegged to look a certain way.

  2. Mine does the same too...

Except he looked at the weight loss TVC, points at the before picture and says "Mummy!".

Thankfully that happened only once. But unfortunately in front of a lot of people.

  3. Indeed flattering, but they are your kids after all and will naturally think of mummy as the best. Anyhow, I doubt they'll make such associations if there were no truth to them! Don't think you should be hard on yourself with regards to the image issue though.... I believe kids will learn more when they see how their parents deal tactfully with issues, more than if they had perfect parents, if these even exist. I've just started reading your blog and truly enjoy it. I've just begun to blog and am already having trouble figuring out how to post pictures properly... will figure it out somehow.

  4. You have a toned body, a perky butt and a flawless face! Wow. Jordan's, Evan's and Dylan's mom is super hot. Now...what's there not to like? ;-P
I hope my kid perceives me in a flattering light next time! Time for me to hit the gym after childbirth.
