Baby Mozart?

Packrat and I decided that it was high time to read to the bump. Well, he'd read to the bump and I would take it as a bedtime story and doze off. We also decided on music for the offspring. Until this morning, I felt like a royal idiot lying still with headphones on my belly. But it all changed when the offspring began to jive to the music. By jive I mean, poke mommy in the sides.

I was reading that we could actually teach the offspring in utero how to respond to us by playing the tapping game. Apparently, if they poked/kicked/prodded or fidgeted in a particular area (right now, I can't quite distinguish the different movements yet), you could teach them how to move their movements to where you want them to by tapping. It's a little bit of behavioural conditioning involved, everytime they move, you reinforce it with tapping the corresponding outer belly area. And then when there's movement again, not reinforce it and the offspring will once again try to elicit a response by moving. That's when you tap some other area and apparently the offspring will move in that area.

I haven't quite tried it yet because the offspring's movement is still very erratic. And this is something that's supposed to be done in the last trimester. I'll stick with the music thing for now. My uni professor played Black Sabbath a lot when his wife was pregnant and this resulted in the baby being soothed only by angry, heavy metal music.

Well, I'm staying away from angry metal music. Trying as hard as possible to not produce angsty offspring.
