Baby J's got an expensive tush. For the longest time, their diapering needs have been covered by Pampers and Bumwear. Bumwear in the morning after they get up because it's not a long time between then and their bath and they usually take a morning poo right in the middle of breakfast. Diapers come after that for the most part of the day till evening where it's Bumwear again till they're changed for bed.
It works pretty well, we save enough on the diapers and it hasn't been exorbitant even though we've got two butts to cover. And being the snob that I am, only the best would do and that was Pampers. Ha! Actually, the humble truth was that it was by trial that we ended up with Pampers. We started them on the cheapo stuff, Dryers, Pureen, supermarket diapers as well as expensive stuff, Nepia and Pampers that we nipped from the hospital. The verdict was Pureen was too thick and Drypers scared the kids silly because of the loud sticky tape it had as fasteners so everytime they got changed, they cried because of the sound. Aunty D and myself decided the cheaper version of Pampers was good enough for them in the day and the more expensive version or the Japanese Mamy Poko (I still cannot get over the name) or Nepia for night use.
I decided on a whim to try another cheapo brand recently. Pet Pet. What is it with diapers with stupid names? Anyway, they were cheap and my perpetual attempt to be on an austerity drive trumped my desire to be snotty enough to use only the best. Unfortunately, my daughter's tush decided it was snotty too and protested the use of sub quality diapers. She started out with a little bit of rash but that very quickly developed into a full blown red, angry and scaly rash all over the place.
I felt extremely sorry for her but could not help but laugh at the fact that the girl goes bottomless for most of the day in an attempt to air out the rash. I came home to find her asleep with just a t-shirt on, sleeping on a rubber mat and a nappy cloth. This morning, she was having breakfast diaper-less and she seemed perfectly happy with the arrangement. It was more troublesome for us because the little girl was leaving puddles of pee all over the place, much like a little un-toilet trained puppy. It has been suggested that I should put her over the potty every 15 minutes or so. I would except I have her brother to entertain as well and the girl has strong and loud powers of protest and is unafraid to use them.
I hope it clears up. But I have learnt my lesson. There is a reason why some diapers are most expensive than others and it's not one of those things to stinge on. That said, I spied a sale on Pampers Diapers at Cold Storage this morning so it's time to stock up again.
Begone red angry rash. Go find some other tush to affect. Just as long as it's not Evan's! We've had enough grief with his milk rash already.
