A few days ago, I asked Packrat when it was and whose house we were at that we came home from on Christmas morning so late or so early (depending on how we looked at it) that Christmas morning papers were already delivered. He said it was before the twins came around. Before the twins, Christmas was about hanging with friends and buying expensive gifts for one another and our friends. There were parties to go to and just sit around, eat, be merry and enjoy the festivities.
It's changed somewhat. Most of the presents we buy now are for the twins or for the children of our friends. Christmas morning is now also about watching the twins rip, shred and tear wrapping paper; I wonder why that wasn't discussed at Coppenhagen. We didn't buy a lot for the twins though. The only thing we got them was a bicycle each and that was hidden at their grandparents' till today.
The other gifts the twins got included a Lego set, a Thomas the Tank set, a skate-scooter for each of them, clothes, toys and many other things that I haven't had time to unwrap. But my children, being my children seemed more stoked by the fact that wrapping paper meant they had more paper to cut; I bought them safety scissors a few days ago.
They did however had great fun at the various Christmas parties we've been to and singing Santa Claus is Coming to Town on command. Of course, Jordan's version sounds like "Sengkang Claus" is Coming. Totally Singaporean-fied.
The funniest thing about this Christmas wasn't so much the twins and their antics although that's always funny and worth a barrel of laughs. The funniest thing was that Packrat and I ended up buying each other the same Christmas present so now we have 2 copies of the same book. What were the odds? I did have a sneaking suspicion it was going to happen but I didn't really think it would.
Anyway, it's all behind us and I am exhausted from the running around. The next thing we have to look forward to is the Muffin's birth and that is a scary thought all by itself!
