My little, yet to be 3 year old daughter shows signs of being a fashionista. She loves pretty things. Would live in dresses if I allowed her to. And has recently taken to hijacking my handbags. I try very hard not to indulge. I say no to Barbie Dolls, I say no to Disney Princess paraphenalia and cartoons. I say no to her trying on her grandma's lipstick. It hasn't happened yet but I will probably say no to 'Princess' manicures and massages.
Her toys are toys that she shares with her brother so there are pretty much toys that don't have much in the gender shaping department. Of course, she has a slew of relatives who buy her pretty little things. Crowns, little bags, hair clips etc.
I'm not going to be Nazi to the point of banning people from giving her 'girly' and 'pretty' things. I quite like girly and pretty things. In fact, I see that as one of the perks of having a girl. I just don't want it to define her.
So I giggle and chuckle when she traipses around in my shoes and insists on dressing up . Someone asked if I would let her model. Well, I truly don't think anyone would ask because she doesn't look pretty in the conventional, little girl way. I wanted to model when I was in school so I don't know how I would keep her away from it.
I do take photographs of her though, most of which, she gamely poses for. But I use them to blog or intend to keep them to blackmail her with next time.
