Having had to keep Little J home for the week meant I had to come up with things for her to do, in between going off to visit Evan. One thing I had ready for her to do, which I was actually saving because I wanted Evan to be a part of it too was little paint iced blocks that I had made.
It was easy to make. An ice tray; I chose one with shapes so that the iced blocks could act as mini stamps. Some child-safe paint and some space in the freezer. The only challenge was getting everything done before the cubes melted into a colour oblivion.
As with most 'planned' activities with the children, it quickly devolved into Jordan's own science/ art experiment. Usually, all painting attempts end up with the same coloured watery muck because the twins would inadvertently mix everything together in the water that is put out to wash their hands.
This time was no different except Jordan also discovered that if she put the ice cubes between her palms, they disappeared into a watery mess and if she dumped all the ice cubes into the water and swirled it about, she got cold, icy muck whose colour slowly changed.
It was easy enough and it kept her occupied enough. She even had fun cleaning up because I took out a watering can that her Aunty Olie had thoughtfully sent.
Now to do the same thing again, with Evan as well.
