Once again, we are struck by the differences in the twins, despite them being twins.
They play more now and I am happy about that because that means they live us alone, mostly. But sometimes they still play on their own. It's almost as if they need their own time to do their own thing.
That's when Evan will flip his toy cars over and examine how the wheels spin, or to spin our study chairs round and round. Generally, he will tinker around. He lives up to being a boy. He lives up to being like his father, a techie.
Then, there's Jordan. She will indulge in playing with her baby doll, smothering her little brother etc.
But one big difference in their play manners is that Evan's play is very literal. He will tinker, he will figure things out.
Jordan on the other hand loves to play make belief. The first time I saw her pull her fingers out of her mouth continuously, I thought she was going to make herself gag. But apparently, what she was doing was to pull a handkerchief out of her mouth as she had seen a magician do the day before.
Then, there was the going up to Evan and pretending to take off his shoes and chucking his shoes out the window much to the great distress of Evan.
The latest has been her imaginary pet. She walks round stroking the air round her arm. When asked about it, she says her kitten is there. From what we've gathered, her kitten is pink (of course!), sleeps in the most inconvenient of places because I have been yelped at for stepping on the poor kitten's tail and it eats popcorn, banana and strawberry milk. And the name of the kitten, Lucky Kitten.
I love that Evan tries to work out how things work. He will be very helpful when I have to assemble Ikea furniture from scratch.
I love Jordan's imaginative play because it forces her to tell me about it and it is often so ridiculously weird. But it is all serious stuff in her mind.
I would post of photograph of her and her kitten but mostly it will just look like it's her just standing there gazing glassily at her arm/ floor/ hand.
