The hardest thing to do when changing the kids now is to keep them still. Because they can roll over, because they can pull themselves up, because they want to sit up, it's impossible to get them to keep still. We try everything. Hanging toys over the changing table, letting them play with books, distract them with their bottles of baby oil and diaper cream. But nothing works. They still turn over and grab diapers, clothes within reach, everything and stick it into their mouths.
Every Friday, as far as possible, the twins go over to their Mama's house. This is my mother, who doesn't get to see her grandchildren as much and feels a bit sad when they don't recognise her and cry when she carries them. So, as a rule, on my day off, we spend the day at Mama's and I run my errands there. I like the arrangement because I've come to miss my mom dreadfully as well and am content to just be near her even if we're both busy with the kids. I hope Jordan will favour me in the same way in the future but that's a different issue altogether.
Anyway, this morning, while Aunty D was trying to get Evan dressed, he reached over and shoved an assortment of Baby J's clothes into his mouth. This meant they had to be washed again. And it led Aunty D to exclaim that he was just adding to her laundry load. So, instead of throwing into the wash perfectly clean save for some drool clothes, Aunty D decided to make an outfit of it all and dress Evan in all that he had drooled on.
The effect was comically horrifying!
My son looks surprisingly fetching and pretty in his sister's pink clothes but it is just wrong! And his father would just flip out. True enough when Packrat received the MMS, he was somewhat traumatised. I was torn between laughing at him and being a little bit uncomfortable with the boy wearing a skirt. I must say pink is a good colour on the boy even though I doubt his father would let me dress him in pink, even if it was a Polo T.
But surprisingly enough or unsurprisingly, the two of them actually look alike. I am however, not going to make any judgements whatsoever on which one of them looks better in the get up.
Now, I am inspired to go read all my Developmental psych texts about gender identity formation and gender roles. To find the time, that's a different story altogether.
