Round and round we go

Muffin gets left to entertain himself a fair bit when his siblings are around. This is especially the case in the early mornings when we have to get the twins ready for school and during meal times.

So at these times, we put him in one of two play structures. One is a bouncer with little toys that can distract him. He also likes the fact that it is indeed a bouncer and he can therefore BOUNCE hard in it.

The other is a runner. There is an activity table but he is seated atop some wheels that can take him round the table.

Both of these work for about 15 to 20 minutes and they help in giving us time to deal with his older siblings.

I am thankful he has learnt to entertain himself somewhat.

He discovered that in the bouncer, he could play peekaboo with himself because there is a little mirror in the toy house. He would chuckle and cackle as he looked at himself and slammed the toy door to the house shut. He would guffaw as if it were the funniest thing in the world.

This video took a long time to record because the little cam whore would look and grin at the phone once he discovers that he is being videoed. While that is cute and all, I am often aiming to get him at his most candid.

Muffin has also learnt to cruise with the help of furniture. But funnier is to delude him into thinking that he is actually cruising. When he tires of playing by himself, the little boy will shout. Not cry. But shout. And once that happens, it means that he needs something new to play with. Because we still needed him relatively immobile, we decided to put a stool in front of his runner and see what happens.

Round and round he goes. I am certain the neighbours below us are not amused. But round and round he goes. Once, he managed to trap the stool behind his runner and he looked like he was doing hard labour dragging it along. And then looked like he was about to get whip lash from twisting his head back to figure out where his stool was.

All the while, I watch in amusement and wistfulness. My baby is growing up. He has a great sense of humour and I am thankful he is generally self-sufficient, but he is growing up.

Sob.
